The Next Step in Therapeutic Parenting
A five-day family getaway in a home-away-from-home environment where learning and growth can happen away from the stresses and chaos of everyday life. Each day includes scheduled times for the family to practice therapeutic skills, engage in family activities, and strengthen trust and attachment.
Parents will increase their understanding of therapeutic care and practice therapeutic parenting skills in an interactive way to build success, empathy, strength, and empowerment.
Children will have opportunities to complete schoolwork (during the school year), practice skills that will help them succeed at home, and participate in learning and workbook activities.
If you are using therapeutic parenting techniques and feel like you have hit a wall or are asking yourself, “now what?” – this program is for you!
Therapeutic Parenting Intensives are based on Dr. Brue Perry’s conceptualization of environments of success and the “doorway effect” and the practical, hands-on techniques of our Therapeutic Parenting Course.

- to increase your skills in therapeutic parenting
- to be empowered, strong, and loving leaders
- to be surrounded by support in an environment of felt safety
- Program goals for children:
- to learn life skills and more adaptive ways of being/behaving
- to practice brain-building and regulation techniques
- to build trust with parents
- to be in an environment of felt safety and healing
- During the week, parents will learn new, deeper insights into therapeutic parenting and create a step-by-step plan to take home, including:
- Daily schedules
- Routines
- Safety plan
- Activity and playtime organization
- Self-care plan
- Healing support team planning

Where: Beautiful La Rivière, Manitoba (2 hrs. southwest of Winnipeg)
Dates: 2 spots available in August and October/November of 2026; additional dates available for 2027
Cost: $5,500CAD (includes family accommodations, trainings, coaching, respite care, children’s activities, workbooks, and lunch and snacks daily)

Who should attend: To be the most effective, all family members living in the home should attend. Families can also bring along a respite provider, family support person, or babysitter for additional support throughout the week.

Meet the Team
Karen Poitras is the parent coach and trainer who will guide all learning and coaching sessions, home plans, and therapeutic techniques, as well as provide parents with support to become strong, empowered therapeutic parents. Read more about Karen here.
